Here’s a super sweet sewing pattern to make felt donuts and the best bit, there’s absolutely no calories in these! There’s only one downside and that’s this project makes you hungry.
5 easy steps to make one and here’s how to do it:
Download my Sewing template pattern or draw your own.
What tools and materials you’ll need:
- Felt – Pastry colour
- Felt – Icing colour (Pink)
- Stranded cotton threads for Sprinkles
- Toy stuffing
- Sewing needle
- Scissors
1 – Cut
Firstly CUT 2 donut pieces and 1 icing (If you want a full donut without the hole just leave the whole out)
2 – Sew
Secure the icing to one of your donut pieces using a simple and small running stitch.
3 – Sprinkles
Make multicoloured sprinkles with long random running stitch. Tip: Sew all one colour, tie off (knot) and then repeat with all the colours you wish to use.
The back may look messy but this will be hidden inside so that’s fine, just don’t cross through the center circle with any stray threads.
4 – Sew Center
Bring your other donut piece in now and Sew all parts together starting with the center circle (if you are making a ring donut, if not skip this step).
5 – Sew outside edge
As neatly as possible sew the outside edges of your donut together using your favourite edging stitch. I used Blanket Stitch in the photos.
Top Tip: Stuff as you go! The ring donut will close up quickly and so stuffing as you go is much easier. Keep stuffing right up to the very last stitch.
Finish off with a tight knot and hide your thread tails inside the donut.
Ta Da!
Now get created and have some fun, why not make some more with different toppings or try one without the hole.
Don’t be tempted to eat these as they donut taste great! Ha
