I'm so eggcited to show you this project!

A quick and easy Spring project suitable for all ages. This is a nostalgic craft for anyone who wants to make spring decorations or an Easter gift.

Here's the KIT you will need:
- 6-12 hens’ eggs
- Drawing pin
- Small skewer
- Paints (I used acrylics)
- Egg cups or shot glasses
- Soft paintbrush
- Hairdryer
- Basket or bowl for display

If you are ready, gather your materials and let's get cracking!
(Sorry I couldn't resist)
INSTRUCTIONS
Note each step of this project needs time to dry, harden or set so be patient.
1. COLLECT OR BUY YOUR EGGS
We have chickens so I asked them nicely and they obliged.
PLAN A MEAL with the eggs so as not to waste the precious contents of the shell.
And keep the egg boxes for safe storage of your decorated eggs.

2. BLOWING THE EGGS
I went with the traditional method of pricking a hole at the top with a drawing pin, the bottom with a skewer and then blowing the contents out over a bowl. Make sure the bottom hole is big enough for the contents to escape out.

You are listening for a gushing sound when the last of the yolk comes out. When you think you are done, set your egg over an egg cup so any remaining yolk can get out and then periodically blow again a few times to get all remaining contents out.

TOP TIP: Make sure that you have pierced the yolk otherwise this will get stuck inside.
Lastly clean your eggs out gently by submerging in warm soapy water, blow them again and then leave them to dry out.
3. TIME TO DECORATE
And there are so many ways to do this. I chose to simply paint my eggs in pastel colours, which is a nice option for creating with children or in a group.

I used watered down acrylic paints, and I painted lots of thin layers. Don't worry about the finish at first just get the shell covered, dry and keep painting until you are happy. My acrylic created a chalky finish which I love, but different paints will give you a varied finish.
TOP TIP - Using a hair dryer makes this step a whole lot quicker and more fun!
It's fiddly holding the egg so be prepared for some breakages!

Optional extra - you can HARDEN your lovely eggs with an added layer of PVA glue painted on the outside to keep them for longer. This will inevitably make your eggs more shiny but stronger.
5. FINALLY LET’S DISPLAY
Use your colourful eggs as a spring center piece in a bowl or basket. I added a little hay nest, but get creative with what you have.

Another option is to STRING your eggs and hang them as decorations.
To string an egg just use the holes that you pierced in step 2, then carefully thread string or cord right through the egg and tie with a knot, or bead, for a super cute ornament. You could possibly bring a branch indoors and stand it in a vase.
I hope that you had fun with this one and didn't get too messy.
